Study Architecture in the UK

Anglia Foundation has sent students to England to do the following architecture courses:

-At the University of Bath

The discipline of architecture operates at the intersection between human beings and their environments. The architect therefore plays a vital role in shaping and sustaining our everyday experiences, our comfort and well-being, our delight in the grand vision and our appreciation of simple pleasures. A deep understanding of the subtle forces that shape architectural design is therefore essential for any practising architect.

  • Programmes are organised to regularly immerse students in both the practical as well as theoretical aspects of design. This is known as a thin sandwich programme.
  • The interdisciplinary team works on projects with students from Civil Engineering programmes.
  • The University maintains an excellent graduate employment record.
  • Research strengths in the Department include architectural history and theory, lightweight structures, computer-aided design and the environmental design of buildings.

-At the University of Sheffield

All three years of this degree course are divided approximately equally between lecture courses and studio-based courses. The first year studio course acts as a foundation year that aims to bring together students from a range of academic backgrounds. Projects develop in scale and complexity until the major design project at the end of the third year, which addresses a range of cultural, technological, conceptual and representational ideas.

The course will provide a balance of theory, design work and professional experience. You’ll carry out much of your work in the design studio which acts as a laboratory for trialing creative and critical ideas, and for developing fundamental architectural skills. Lectures and design teaching are delivered by people at the forefront of their field.

This course is recognised by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and gives exemption from RIBA Part 1. Students on this route generally take a year out in professional practice before returning to a two year MArch in Architecture course either at Sheffield or another school. All the qualifications are prescribed by the Architects Registration Board which means you’ll be able to join the Register of Architects when you’ve completed your training.
